I'm probably more used to a different form of discrimination: discrimination based on the premise that one has a "handicap".

let me explain, my parents are Deaf, while I can hear perfectly, I am therefore described as a CODA (child of deaf adults) but oftentimes, moreso with the less educated, I find that people have a tendency to look down upon me, as if I am handicapped, when in fact, I, and my parents, take pride in our Deaf culture, our lifestyle, and our language, that the Universities here in the United States are FINALLY recognizing as an actual language unto itself. It's terrible, the way that people look down on those that are different, my mom was born Deaf, so music? it's nothing special to her, it means nothing to her, the lack thereof is all that she's ever known. This is the same for many of the culturally deaf in the United states, we have pride in who we are, and don't appreciate the destructive nature of this mentality.

I find it interesting, how we all have a tendency to want to make everyone the same, "curing" the deficiencies, giving everyone the same opportunities, but while some people have certain weaknesses, they also have other factors that play in to give them strengths overall. For example, many people believe that those that are unable to hear should be banned :police: from ever driving, because OBVIOUSLY the ability to hear is necessary to drive a car. In actuality, the deaf, while being less able to listen for emergency vehicles and the sort, they are much more observant, they can keep track of several things going on around them at once, and it doesn't take a genius to use your mirrors :).

I really hope you see my point here, the Deaf are being discriminated against to this very day.. I really hope you respond with a note or something along those lines, if you're interested in what I have to say, or my perspective on different issues, or anything related to your experiences with Deaf culture, either here in the states or around the world, I'm incredibly fascinated with world sign language, and I wonder how their locations have changed the cultures respectively.

:highfive: Feel free to comment if you have any thoughts in particular you'd like to discuss :D

So, Joel Sartore came down to my University to talk about his experiences in shooting for national geographic, as well as some of the things that he's learned in general, pertaining to some of his big life events. I love the fact that his life is cataloged in his mind, by order of the big stories in his life. I like that, that'd be a fun way to remember how your life has progressed. Y'know what I mean? he did a wonderful segment about how cancer can be both a demon, and a blessing in disguise, and I never really thought about it that way, I'm really into the way he thinks, it's different from what I'm used to hearing, and that really has drawn me into the experience. the presentation as a whole just made me feel so alive.. as you guys well know, I haven't written a journal in what, 3 months? I really haven't felt very motivated to do so, other than ranting about things which have been bothering me in the past, which, isn't really my style, so I've avoided writing journals because of that. Today was a really good day, hopefully he'll be impressed by my photography, he said that I could send him an email, and that he'd check into nat'l geo about some internships they may have open, at this point, I really will take anything I can get, in order to get me working for the magazine. I've just sent him the email just now, and I gave him a link to this site, so, odds are, he may end up reading this :) oh well, a glimpse into my mind  I feel a lot better now, totally waiting for him to get back to me :w00t: idk if I'm going to get anywhere with the internships, I haven't gotten any offers thus far, so I'd like to see what the opportunities are :D

My second semester of Freshman year at the University of Missouri-Columbia starts tomorrow... what do I have to say about that?

It's about damn time. :faint:

It's been really tiresome, not being able to take photos because of the weather, but I can already feel the creative energies starting to flow again.. I'm so anxious for spring to come again, once that happens, I'll be fantastic.. still dating my current gf, Valen, we're going on our 5th month together, with no sign of slowing down anytime soon. so  hopefully that lasts, and the weather doesn't :D

Well, I mean I'm sitting here, on the third floor of my arts and sciences college building on University of Missouri-Columbia campus, and... I really want to take some photos. but of WHAT!? :ponder: I may go wander to some obscure place in order to try and take some pics, the problem with that is, daylight only lasts until 7:00 PM here, and classes end at about 3:45ish. Sure that's plenty of time, but I still have to manage to somehow discover WHERE I'm going to be shooting. I could very well stay on campus, but I don't really want to... Maybe I should ride around campus on a giant skateboard. on my belleh. It would change my perspective! :D :shakefish:
